Carbon Monoxide Detection

We understand the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning and take every precaution to ensure your safety. To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, we recommend regularly inspecting and maintaining your heating and cooling system, ensuring that all exhaust vents are clear of debris and that all fuel-burning appliances are vented properly.

Additionally, it is important to install a carbon monoxide detector in your home to alert you of any elevated levels of this toxic gas. By following these safety measures, you can reduce your risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Common Sources of Carbon Monoxide Indoors

Furnace / Heating Unit (Gas)

Typically, carbon monoxide from your gas heating system is vented outdoors, however improper venting or a cracked heat exchanger could cause a buildup of dangerous carbon monoxide levels within the home. This is why it's VITAL to use a trusted HVAC professional, as they are trained to look for any issues that may arise.

Other Gas Appliances

Clothes Dryers

Ovens

Stoves

Grills

Generators

Portable Heaters

Wood Burning Stove or Fireplace

Water Heater (Gas)

Similar to gas heating systems, gas hot water tanks need to be properly vented to ensure carbon monoxide isn't being trapped and circulated back into the home.

Damage to your gas water heater also poses a risk of carbon monoxide exposure.

Vehicles

Your car's internal combustion engine produces extremely high levels of carbon monoxide. This silent killer, along with other toxic gases, are funneled through the exhaust pipe.

If you park in an enclosed garage, it's important to make sure you aren't starting your ignition before opening the garage door.

How do I prevent carbon monoxide dangers within my home?

Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Carbon monoxide detectors are fairly affordable and you should have at least one installed on every level of your home. The U.S Fire Administration recommends testing your carbon monoxide detector monthly.

Preventative Maintenance

Routine maintenance or service of your gas appliances is vital to ensuring they are properly vented and in good working condition. All of our Preventative Maintenance packages for your HVAC system include carbon monoxide testing and inspection/testing of all functions.

**Most carbon monoxide detectors have a shelf life of 5-7 years, however if you're unsure of the age of yours, we suggest switching it out for a new one**
