Commonly Asked Questions

What is a filter?

Typically made of a fiberglass or pleated paper material, its primary function is to trap pet dander, dust, and other allergens to prevent it from circulating within your home.

This filter is what cleans the air that passes through your heating and cooling system.

Are they expensive?

Filters are very affordable, and price will vary depending on the size of your filter.

Why is my filter so dirty?

If your house is clean and you are regularly changing your filters but notice that they are excessively dirty, it might be a good idea to have your ductwork looked at as it could be a sign of a ductwork integrity issue.

What happens if I don't
replace my filter?

When your filter goes unchanged, dust and allergens will continue to accumulate in the filter until air is no longer able to pass through. This causes your unit to become "choked up" as airflow is now restricted.

A dirty filter may cause your heating and cooling system to malfunction or fail altogether, so we highly recommend staying on top of it.

What size filter do I need?

If you are able to locate your filter, the size should be printed on the size of it and includes the length, width, and depth in inches. An example of this would be: 20 x 20 x 1

How often should I replace it?

For a standard size filter, we recommend every 30-60 days, depending on the amount of air pollutants within your home.

If you are using a 5 inch thick filter, these can be changed every 60-90 days. Thicker filters have increased surface area and can go a little longer without changing.

Where is my filter located?

The filter is typically located next to your heating and cooling system's air handler and most often found in the attic, basement, or utility closet.

If you are unsure how to locate your air handler or filter, give us a call and we will be happy to walk you through it.
